Mediterranean Sea,

Posidonia

The protection of Posidonia oceanica:

The Posidonia oceanica is a fundamental marine plant for the Mediterranean ecosystem. Often mistaken for an alga, it is actually a true plant with roots, stem, and leaves, capable of forming extensive underwater meadows. These green areas play a crucial role in oxygen production, contributing to the health of the marine environment and providing shelter and nourishment to a wide range of species, including fish, crustaceans, and mollusks.

Unfortunately, pollution, intensive fishing, and especially unregulated anchoring seriously threaten its survival. Boats that drop anchor without control can destroy in seconds what nature has taken centuries to create.

In Italy, several initiatives have been launched to protect it: from the placement of ecological buoys to the creation of marine protected areas, not to mention awareness campaigns to inform boaters and tourists about the importance of these precious submerged meadows.

Thanks to those who, with care and respect, avoid anchoring on it. Every gesture counts: protecting Posidonia means safeguarding our sea and the delicate balance that makes it unique.
